Nigeria is not a dumping ground for ICT and its products – Osinbajo

Nigerian Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has vowed that Nigeria, being the populous country in Africa cannot afford to be a dumping ground, where all sorts of ICT products are deposited.

The Law Professor turned politician stated this in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory at the just concluded ‘Digital Africa Conference and Exhibition with the theme “The Fourth Industrial Revolution: Getting Africa Ready”.
Osinbajo, who was represented by the Minister of Communications, Barr. Adebayo Shittu disclosed that the Federal Government is already making concerted plans to build a $1billion Information Communication and Technology (ICT) company, with the hope of encouraging indigenous ICT products.
“We have resolved as a country that we can no longer serve as a dumping ground where all sorts of ICT related products are deposited. A way out of this is the plan to build a $1billion ICT company that can encourage indigenous products and services to spring up,” he stated.
He added that the Federal Government is serious about the local content policy, stressing that it is part of the Muhammadu Buhari’s policy  to turn Nigeria into the biggest economic hub in Africa.
