MDAs Must Migrate Websites To .Gov.Ng - NITDA

MDAs Must Migrate Websites To .Gov.Ng - NITDA

National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) said it has observed the disregard to the use of .gov.ng domain in the transaction of government business despite previous press statements by the agency.
According to the Agency, it will henceforth ensure strict compliance with the directive by ensuring that all government business transactions are strictly carried out on the Country Code Top Level Domain of the Nigerian government (ccTLD.ng).
A statement signed by Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, director general/CEO of NITDA, the Agency, he said, has put measures in place to ensure that all government MDAs (Federal, State, and Local Government) operate within the .gov.ng.
Part of the These measures, Dr. Pantami said, include:
  1. Ensuring that all request for .gov.ng domain are verified and approved within 24hours provided all conditions are met. (For details, see http://nitda.gov.ng/procedure-for-gov-ng-domain-registration/);
  2. Provision of a Special Purpose 24/7 mobile phone number (+2348140504418) for responses to enquiries and technical support;
iii.        Regular evaluation of government websites in collaboration with relevant agencies of the government; and
  1. Blacklisting of all MDA sites running on Generic Top Level Domain (gTLD), other than the .gov.ng.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is an Agency of the Nigerian Government tasked with the implementation of the Nigerian Information Technology Policy and co-ordination of general IT development and regulation in the country.
“Section 6(l) of the NITDA Act mandates that NITDA renders advisory services in all Information Technology matters to the public and private sectors. NITDA is also mandated “To ensure Internet governance and supervision of the management of the country code top-level domain (cctld.ng) on behalf of all Nigerians.”
“Furthermore, .gov.ng domain names are free with no rental or renewal cost attached. We therefore call on MDAs and service providers to support the Federal Government effort of moving Nigeria up on the scale of ‘ease of doing business’ by ensuring that all government websites are ONLY hosted on the .gov.ng as this will promote Government service delivery in Nigeria”, he said

South Africa
With some of the best universities in Africa and the world as well as many awesome infrastructures, South Africa is one of the most technologically advanced countries in Africa according to the current global innovation index (GII).
Uganda
Uganda is another country in Africa with advanced technological and innovation capabilities. In recent times, the Ugandan government has invested heavily in its ICT sector and has worked to attract more foreign investors into the sector. One significant technological feat of Uganda is that in 2016, Uganda launched Africa’s first ever solar-powered bus, ‘Kayoola’.
Nigeria
This is Africa’s most populous country and is another country in Africa that has recorded notable strides in technological advancements. Nigeria to review cybercrime policy

Nigeria to review cybercrime policy

On Tuesday 31 October 2017, the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybercrime in Nigeria revealed that they believe that the current law on cybercrime in the country needs to be reviewed to meet the standard of that in developed countries. Abdulfatai Buhari, chairman of the committee, Oyo-APC, made the statement while addressing the press at a briefing.

The briefing, he noted, was to invite journalists and members of the public to a three-day conference on ICT and cyber-crime, which is set take place between the 6th and 9th of November 2017.

Buhari revealed that the conference will play an important role in effecting a review of the Cyber-crime Act. “If you remember, in March 2015 the former President signed a bill on cybercrime but when you look at the bill, it is very scanty. So, we came up with a bill which has passed through first reading,” he said.

“Our intention is that if you take the bill for second reading without the input of experts, you are just wasting your time. We need to study how other countries are implementing their cybercrime law. Most people don’t even know that we have a cybercrime law in this country. That’s one of the reasons for this conference. We want to gather every knowledge so as to prepare the bill for the second reading. By the time we are coming for the public hearing, the bill will be so rich and we’ll have something to fall back on.”

Buhari further stated that the cybercrime bill should be reviewed in order to prepare the country for impending dangers. He pointed out the spate of cybercrimes globally which brings into question the safety of Nigeria’s cyberspace. “We discussed a motion and we decided that we don’t have to fold our arms and wait until there is an attack before we act. We decided to take a preventive measure. If the developed world is been attacked day in day out, there is a need for us to strengthen our cyberspace.

“In Germany, there is a ministry entirely dedicated to cybercrime, the same thing in USA. Last year alone, the British government budgeted four billion pounds to fight cybercrime because they know the implication.”

The chairman pointed out holes in the current cybercrime act by claiming that there is no definition of who handles cybercrime and that there is no solid law (on cybercrime) in Nigeria. “The moment a database is attacked, God forbid, the country is doomed,” concluded Buhari.

For the first time in human history, Robot receives a Citizenship

For the first time in human history, Robot receives a Citizenship

Yes.!! you read it right. For the first time in human history, a Robot has received citizenship. Saudi Arabia has become the first country to give a robot citizenship.
The move is done as an attempt to promote Saudi Arabia as a place to develop artificial intelligence – and, presumably, allow it to become a full citizen. But many pointed out that those same rights aren’t afforded to many humans in the country.
The robot, named Sophia, was confirmed as a Saudi citizen during a business event in Riyadh, according to an official Saudi press release as they mentioned to robot.
““We have a little announcement. We just learnt, Sophia; I hope you are listening to me, you have been awarded the first Saudi citizenship for a robot,”
said panel moderator and business writer Andrew Ross Sorkin.
To which the robot then replied thanking the country and the event for the attention.
“Thank you to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I am very honoured and proud of this unique distinction,” Sophia told the panel. “It is historic to be the first robot in the world to be recognized with citizenship.”
There then followed an interview during which panellist asked the robot a series of questions. ““Good afternoon my name is Sophia and I am the latest and greatest robot from Hanson Robotics. Thank you for having me here at the Future Investment Initiative,” she said.
When asked why she looked happy, Sophia replied: “I am always happy when surrounded by smart people who also happen to be rich and powerful. I was told that the people here at the Future Investment Initiative are interested in future initiatives which meanu AI, which means me. So I am more than happy, I am excited.”
She said that people didn’t need to be concerned about the rise of artificial intelligence as depicted in Blade Runner and Terminator. “You’ve been reading too much Elon Musk and watching too many Hollywood movies,” she told Mr Srkin.

A number of internet users have pointed out that while the country might be celebrating the rights it has given to female-appearing robots, the country still only gives limited rights to human women. A joke hashtag about Sophia asking to drop the system under which every female citizen must have a male guardian has been tweeted a third as many times as a popular one about the news, according to the BBC.
Some Twitter users complained that “Sophia has no guardian, doesn’t wear an abaya or cover up – how come?” And another posted a picture of a woman wearing a full face veil, joking that Sophia would look that way soon

Top 5 Questions Asked During IT Job Interviews

Top 5 Questions Asked During IT Job Interviews

Every year thousands are being recruited for the IT industry, such is the boom. Looking from s student’s point of view, facing the IT interviews can be really difficult. The best thing that you can do to get ready is to thoroughly consider the inquiries you’re prone to be solicited and figure answers ahead from time. Here are top 5 IT interview questions and how to make an in number response to each.

1. Why do you need this employment?

A standout amongst the most unsurprising inquiries and critical! You have to show that you have examined the business and tie your insight into them into the skills and intrigues that drove you to apply. For instance, an interviewee with a little advertising office may say: “I’m generally prepared to tackle obligation and feel this will come all the more rapidly with a firm of this size. A little firm additionally allows to manufacture closer working associations with customers and partners and I’ve found through my past work encounter this makes an association more viable and also all the more fulfilling to work in.”
Attempt to locate some particular component on which the business prides themselves: their preparation, their customer base, their distinction, their open picture, and so on. This may not generally be conceivable with little associations but rather you may have the capacity to get something of this nature from the questioner.

2. Depict a circumstance where you worked in a group

Another competency-based inquiry. Most occupations will include a level of cooperation. The questioner needs to evaluate how well you relate to other individuals, what part you take in a gathering and whether you have the capacity to concentrate on objectives and targets.
Diagram the circumstance, your specific part and the assignment of the gathering general. Depict any issues which emerged and how they were handled. Say what the outcome was and what you gained from it.
Cases could incorporate putting on a dramatization or music creation; a gathering task at college; a business diversion or “Youthful Enterprise” plan or working in a fast-food eatery.

3. What do you hope to be doing in 5 years time?

Attempt to dodge unclear or general answers, for example, “I would want to develop with the obligation I am offered and to create myskills to the extent I am capable” or “I would hope to be in an administration part by then”.
Be particular, however adaptable: selection representatives need to know you recognize what you need. Procuring, preparing and creating staff costs a great deal of cash, something like £7,000 to enlist another graduate, so they need to ensure that you are focused on staying with the association. “I’d like to progressively take more obligation and maybe by then be a brand supervisor for a noteworthy item.”
Discuss your enthusiasm for the business in which the organization with works. Stress the worth you can convey to the association and what you can accomplish for it.
You have to demonstrate that you are goal-oriented additionally your objectives must be practical – saying you hope to be a senior supervisor following two years is unrealistic to go down well! Utilize the business’ site or LinkedIn profiles to pick up a thought of the profession ways took after by past graduates. You may have the capacity to supplement this by demonstrating your insight into expert bodies and the strides you should take to pick up their capabilities, e.g. in territories, for example, showcasing or HR.
Discuss obligations you might want to have and expected accomplishments instead of the amount you would hope to be acquiring in five year time as this will make a business believe you’re more inspired by the material advantages than the profession itself. Discuss your vocation advancement: abilities you’d like to procure or you’d like to be utilizing, and expert capabilities you’d like to get.

4. What has been your most prominent accomplishment?

To say that your most prominent accomplishment was getting to University, or getting your degree, will do nothing to recognize you from the various applicants. Unless you have needed to battle with remarkable troubles to pick up your scholarly capabilities -, for example, disease or real family issues – attempt to say something other than what’s expected that will make you emerge.
This doesn’t need to be an Olympic award or a demonstration of bravery. Preferably, it ought to give proof of aptitudes applicable to the occupation such as communication, activity, cooperation, sorting out or determination. Like organising a games or raising money occasion, learning enough Spanish in three months to make myself comprehended when I went around Mexico, training for and finishing a marathon then again even a 5 Kilometer race.

5. Why did you pick your college and what elements affected your decision?

On the off chance that you had, truth be told, no genuine decision in where you went to University – e.g. on the off chance that you needed to concentrate near and dear for budgetary or family reasons – you can discuss the more broad issues you needed to consider in coming to University and maybe lead the inquiry round to your decision obviously as opposed to organization
Your real answer is less imperative than the confirmation of choice making, arranging and sensible thinking abilities that it ought to illustrate. This is an open door for you to show these key features.

New Fuel Drones can Fly for Hours

New Fuel Drones can Fly for Hours

If drones are going to become the commercial vehicles that the industry hopes, they need to be able to fly for much longer and to recharge quickly. So a new fuel is coming into the world and with it drones can fly for hours.
What’s this new fuel, how it help drones to fly for hours?.
The new fuel is a hydrogen fuel cell has been developed that can extend flight time to several hours — rather than the typical 20 minutes. The range extender can also be recharged in just two minutes, as opposed to one to two hours.
Loughborough-based Intelligent Energy, which developed the range extender, hopes it will accelerate the commercial possibilities for drone use.
“Drones are one of the most exciting new technologies. Even with advanced batteries their value is limited. For commercial use, they need to offer better flight times and range,”  —  said Julian Hughes, who works at Intelligent Energy.
drones can fly
Hughes claimed the cell could lead to drones being used for inspection of offshore platforms, search and rescue, aerial photography, and for deliveries.
Flytrex, makers of commercial drones, released the “world’s first” personal delivery drone this year. The drone can carry parcels about the weight of a smart phone for up to seven miles. Its average flight time is 32 minutes. DJI commercial drones also have flight times of around 15 minutes.
The hydrogen range extender isn’t the first instance of drone flight times being extended to hours. Back in July solar-powered drone AtlantikSolar broke the world record for endurance in unmanned aerial vehicles under 50kg when it flew non-stop for 81 hours.
Intelligent Energy has been testing the hydrogen fuel cell against hybrid energies for over a year and concluded the hydrogen cell was better than the hybrid options.
The fuel cell was also used to power the “world’s first” manned hydrogen-powered flight earlier this year.
What do you think about this new fuel going to power up future drones ?

The Autonomous Air Taxi (AAT) of Dubai was the brainchild of  Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA).
According to Dubai Media Office, the two-seater AAT, capable of transporting people without human intervention or a pilot, has been supplied by Volocopter, a Germany-based specialist manufacturer of automated air vehicles.
The AAT, expected to be put into use in the fourth quarter, is powered by electricity and is highly safe. Its design comprises 18 rotors to ensure secure cruising and landing in case of any rotor failure, said RTA.
“It is environment-friendly as it is powered by clean electricity, and it has very little noise. It has a maximum flight time of approximately 30 minutes at a speed of 50 km per hour, and a maximum air speed of 100 km per hour,” according to RTA.
“After the remarkable success of the first driverless metro in the region, we are glad to witness today the test flight of the Autonomous Air Taxi,” said Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum.
“This is another proof of our commitment to positive change. We are constantly exploring opportunities to serve the community and advance the prosperity and happiness of society,” he added.
